Limit the screen time per day for kids below 14 to help stop Electronic Addiction in Texas
The Issue
Hello. In this report, I will be educating you about the dangers of electronic addiction.
Who is affected by electronic addiction, you ask? Everyone that gets electronic addiction is affected by it, and it's a very easy disease to get. How? Well, there are many ways to get electronic addiction. One of the most prominent happens when a person doesn’t want to miss out. So, the person stays on social media for very long periods of time. This scenario is something dubbed as “FOMO”, or Fear of Missing Out. Another cause may happen simply when the victim is bored. He/she then goes on their device and doesn’t want to stop, therefore getting addicted. Some people even get addicted because to them, it’s an escape from reality, and they believe it alleviates depression, or anxiety, or any other problem that they’re facing in the world. The list of electronic addiction causes goes on and on.
Why is electronic addiction so bad, anyway? Many, many harrowing effects can happen to someone with electronic addiction. For one thing, electronic addiction worsens physical health, causing obesity, muscle pain, and even increases the risk of a serious cardiovascular disease! It can cause depression and/or anxiety, and it can worsen in-person social skills. Electronic addiction causes more aggressive behavior towards peers. It causes sleep disorders and disrupts the victim's mood. It negatively affects the brain structure and performance and worsens hearing and vision. It also lowers nucleus volume, shrinks the brain’s fiber matter, and worsens your attention, memory, problem solving skills, emotional processing, and academic and athletic performances, makes life transitions harder, gives suicidal thoughts, disrupts neural pathways, increases chances of getting addicted to other substances…just like the ways one can get electronic addiction, the list of the effects of electronic addiction goes on and on.
Now that we agree that electronic addiction has negative effects on a person, what do I want you to do about it? As a responsible member if this society, I am asking you to please sign this petition to the Governor of Texas to consider passing some laws that limit screen time at home for kids below 14. Thank you for listening to me.
