As pet owners, we experience firsthand the distress that our beloved animals undergo during periods when fireworks are frequently used. The unregulated sale of fireworks has led to several weeks a year where our pets suffer terrible anxiety on a nightly basis. This is not an isolated issue; it's widespread and beyond the capacity of local law enforcement to control, given their other pressing responsibilities.

Fireworks are not only a source of fear for many animals but can also cause physical harm. According to RSPCA, 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (RSPCA, 2020). This statistic doesn't even account for other pets and wildlife affected by this issue.

We propose restricting the sale of noise emitting fireworks to licensed organisers only. Such regulation will significantly reduce random and frequent firework displays while still allowing for their use at controlled events where necessary precautions can be taken.
