Limit the Sale and Noise Levels of Fireworks for the Well-being of All

The Issue

Imagine the fear suffered by vulnerable living beings as louder and louder explosions shatter the air every year. Changes in our society's approach to fireworks are sorely needed. Not only for the animals who die from the stress brought on by the ear-splitting bangs, but also for the ex-soldiers plagued by traumatic memories, and people with autism or sensory issues who are highly sensitive to noise. Our community is faced with this constant barrage of fireworks, used recklessly and, at times, dangerously as weapons aimed at firemen, the public, and animals. The non-stop exposure is not limited to the evening; the explosions go off throughout the day, persisting for months.

While fireworks are often associated with celebration, it's important to remember that more than 40% of UK households own pets, and according to the PDSA Animal Wellbeing Report, 2018, an estimated 3.3 million dogs, cats, and rabbits are fearful of fireworks, leading to severe distress.

Yet the sale of noisy fireworks could be restricted to organized displays or limited to silent fireworks. Additionally, we could limit the dates that fireworks can be sold for specific occasions, such as bonfire night.

Moving the dependency from noisy to silent fireworks would dramatically reduce the distress caused to animals, people with sensory issues, and former military personnel. This change would make celebrations more inclusive and considerate, preserving the joyous spirit without the accompanying disruptive sound.

Please, help us turn down the volume on needless suffering and danger by signing this petition. Together, let's ask for regulations that limit the sale and noise-level of fireworks for the well-being of our community, our wildlife, and ourselves. Sign now to protect those affected the most by loud, prolonged firework displays.
