Limit School Hours to a Maximum of 8 and Abolish Homework

Limit School Hours to a Maximum of 8 and Abolish Homework
The Issue
Captured by: Kyle esguerrra
I am a student who is currently experiencing the strain of an overly demanding educational system. Everyday, I find myself studying for almost 10 hours at school, only to come home and face additional hours of homework. This leaves me with no time for rest or personal development, leading to physical and mental exhaustion.
This is not just my story; it's the reality for many students across our nation. The current education system prioritizes quantity over quality, leaving students overwhelmed with workloads that exceed reasonable limits. According to the department of education (DepEd) issued memorandum 291 s. 2008 allowing teachers to allot six hours for actual classroom teaching a day, with 2 remaining hours to be spent in teaching related activities with the total of eight hours. Yet this guideline is frequently exceeded in schools across our country.
A 2006 study found that “homework had no association with achievement gains” when measured by standardized tests results or grades. This concludes that homework is not contributing for the student's knowledge. This just adds up the student's work and also homework is just limiting the students to have a rest. I conclude that homework is not contributing for us students because our internet has everything. Every students have an access in our internet, and this will just encourage them to search through the internet for their homework.
We are calling on educational authorities to limit school hours to a maximum of eight hours per day and abolish homework altogether. This will allow students sufficient time for rest and personal growth outside academic pursuits - essential components for holistic development.
Our future as individuals should not be compromised by an unbalanced focus on academics alone. Let us strive towards creating an education system that respects our needs as human beings too.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a balanced learning environment where students can thrive both acadically and personally.By supporting this petition, it will help the students to achieve rest mentally and physically.
