Limit Rent Increases by Landlords and Companies in Florida

Limit Rent Increases by Landlords and Companies in Florida
The Issue
I've seen it firsthand - family, friends, neighbors, patients and clients forced into unsafe living conditions because they can't afford the skyrocketing rents in Florida. This is a personal fight for me; it's about ensuring that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing.
Florida's housing market is out of control. In recent years, rent prices have increased at an alarming rate. According to data from Zillow (2020), the median rent price in Florida has risen by nearly 20% over the past five years alone. This surge in rental costs is forcing many residents into precarious living situations or even homelessness.
We need legislation that prevents both private and public landlords and companies from raising rent prices beyond a certain percent each year. Such laws exist in other states like California and New York where annual rent increases are capped at 5% plus inflation (California Tenant Protection Act of 2019) or even less (New York Rent Guidelines Board).
It's time for Florida to follow suit. We must protect our communities from predatory rental practices that put profit before people’s well-being.
Sign this petition today to call on our state legislators to enact laws limiting how much landlords can increase rents annually. Let's make housing affordable for all Floridians!
