As members of the exasperated public who have been negatively affected by the existing healthcare system, we are witnessing firsthand an alarming trend of denied insurance claims. Several members of my family, for instance, have been unable to access essential medical treatments because of refusals by their insurance providers. This leaves thousands with a bleak choice between health and financial ruin.

Based on a study by the American Medical Association, up to 14.6% of claims submitted by health care providers were denied by insurers in 2020 (AMA, 2020). In 2024, United HealthCare denied 33% of in network claims, Medica 28%, and Blue Cross denied 22%. This pervasive denial of claims not only infringes on patients' rights to healthcare, but also escalates the mental and financial strain on already suffering families. 

In light of the aforesaid, we are petitioning for the implementation of a regulation that mandates insurance companies to limit the refusal of insurance claims to no more than 10%. This simple measure can pave the way for better access to healthcare services for everyone, reducing the emotional and financial burden on patients and their families.
