The Hamble Valley Eastleigh and Winchester Labour Party are deeply concerned about the safety and tranquillity of our community. The unrestricted access of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) on our town's roads - Upper Northam Road, Lower Northam Road, Bursledon Road, St Johns Road & Wildern Lane - poses significant risks and disturbances. 

Our town centre is a primary route for children walking to school; the presence of these large vehicles increases the risk of road accidents. According to Department for Transport's statistics in 2019, HGVs were involved in 4% of reported accidents but accounted for 18% of fatalities on UK roads due to their size and weight (source: Department for Transport). 

Moreover, the noise pollution caused by these vehicles disrupts the peace within our residential areas. Noise pollution has been linked with several health issues such as stress-related illnesses and sleep disturbances (source: World Health Organization).

We propose that access be limited only to HGVs with essential deliveries within Hedge End Village. There are other alternative routes for HGVs to use if needing to get to the Motorway or to Botley. This measure will enhance road safety and improve quality of life by reducing noise & pollution.
