The Issue

My livelihood relies heavily on the thriving ecosystem of the Little Red River. As a local guide, I offer unique and enriching trips for people who wish to experience the beauty and thrill of fishing our waters. However, recent restrictions on trout fishing have posed a significant threat to my business and to countless others who depend on guided fishing tours as a source of income. We have seen a notable decline in interest and bookings, which is a devastating blow to our local economy.

Though Arkansas taxpayers have diligently funded the stocking of trout in our river, we are now faced with unprecedented restrictions due to alleged tragedies that have affected our trout stock. These trout are non-native and require consistent stocking by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) to maintain their population. Unfortunately, the engineering of cold water dams disrupted the native ecosystems, an event that residents had no hand in causing.

While AGFC might have justified their actions through environmental concerns, these restrictions on trout fishing have deeply impacted local guides and recreational fishermen. The measures have inadvertently created an imbalance and unfairly penalized hardworking individuals for circumstances beyond their control.

Local guides and fishermen have long cherished the tradition and livelihood brought by vigorous trout fishing in the Little Red River. With the restrictions in place throughout the spawning season, it is essential we address the broader economic and social impacts of these policies. Holding the right entities accountable for ecological disruptions is crucial, yet we must balance environmental conservation with the sustainable livelihoods of Arkansas citizens.

Please join me in advocating for the lifting of trout fishing restrictions on the Little Red River. By signing this petition, you will support the livelihoods of local guides, boost our economy, and ensure that Arkansans can continue to enjoy their right to fish responsibly. Together, let us find a fair resolution that respects both our natural resources and the people who rely on them daily. Please sign this petition to lift the restrictions and safeguard the prosperity of our community.
