Stop Lichfield District Council allocating land for 800 homes on Mile Oak Greenbelt

The Issue

Lichfield District Council is planning to allocate more housing growth on the edge of Tamworth in its new Local Plan that will negatively affect the lives of thousands of local residents.
The plan is for a minimum of 800 homes to be built on greenbelt land off the A453, west of Mile Oak.  If allowed to happen it would destroy wildlife in over 130 acres of local countryside, increase traffic, pollution and carbon emissions at a time of climate change emergency in Staffordshire.
Lichfield District Council has so far ignored objections to the plan from hundreds of local residents, Fazeley Town Council and Tamworth Borough Council that were made during the preferred options consultation.
We object to Lichfield District Council proposing development in this location as:

- It is more housing growth on the edge of Tamworth that the services and    infrastructure in the local area simply cannot sustain.

- 800 homes new homes is completely disproportionate to the size of Mile Oak and Fazeley and it would increase the local population by over 50%.

- The exceptional circumstances to develop on this greenbelt land do not exist, and Lichfield District Council could allocate more suitable sites closer to Lichfield instead.

- It would destroy over 130 acres of greenbelt land at the outer edge of the settlement that is the most accessible local countryside for Mile Oak residents.

- The local roads cannot cope with more traffic from another 800 homes. Both the A453 to and from Tamworth and Mile Oak cross-roads are often heavily congested which will be compounded by traffic from a new 750 home development at Dunstall Park near Ventura and also from HS2 construction.

We want Lichfield District Council to remove the site allocation of land west of Mile Oak from the Regulation 19 version of the Local Plan, start meaningful engagement with the local community, and allocate alternative sites for growth that are not on Tamworth’s border.

If you are opposed to this development please sign this petition, as more than 1,000 signatures will trigger a report that will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet.  Please help local residents to have a voice and stop further housing growth on the edge of Tamworth.
