Save the Liberty Mountain Skatepark

Save the Liberty Mountain Skatepark
The Issue
The Liberty Mountain Skatepark has long been a place for Liberty students and Lynchburg locals to bond and create community through skateboarding, scootering, biking, etc. This is a place where a local skateboarding ministry took place, where many friendships were built, where competitions and camps were held, and most of all, it was a place for Liberty skateboarders to feel at home.
Liberty University has recently made the decision to shut down this park. While we don’t know the reasoning as to why this is happening, or have any details on this decision, we, as the Liberty/Lynchburg skate community, want to take action to show the school how important this park is to the local and student skaters, and how big of a deal this closure is to so many at the school.
We understand that there may be underlying reasons to the closing of this park, that may or may not be out of the control of the ones making the decision. However, we want make it clear that the closing of this park will take a toll on a very vibrant and flourishing culture at Liberty that calls this park home. We want to see this skatepark continue on, for Liberty skaters to have a place to go, for locals to have the chance to be a part of this incredible community, for other Liberty students to have the chance to try new hobbies, and for so many other reasons. We love the LM Skatepark!
