The Issue

LIBERTY COUNTY TAXPAYERS DESERVE BETTER

Lower Our Taxes. Show Us Where the Money Goes. Invest in Our Communities.

Liberty County property owners are paying more and more — but what are we getting in return?

$24.9 MILLION → $41 MILLION
According to Liberty County's own records, total county M&O property taxes levied increased from approximately $24.9 million in 2022 to $41 million in 2025.

That's about a 65% increase in only three years.
Many property owners in our community also experienced dramatic increases in property assessments — some approximately 30% in one year.

Liberty County's 2025 unincorporated county M&O tax rate is 20.900 mills, a substantial county tax rate compared with most Georgia counties.

WE'RE PAYING MORE. WHERE ARE THE RESULTS?

Many of our communities still have:

Poor roads and drainage
Few parks or recreational areas
Little or no sidewalks
Little landscaping or beautification
Furniture, mattresses and eviction debris left along roads without adequate enforcement or timely cleanup
Growing concerns about crime and public safety

Meanwhile, residents are watching large warehouse developments and increasingly dense housing on very small lots change our communities, often despite strong opposition from the people who already live there.

Residents have also raised serious concerns about the proposed wastewater treatment facility and other major projects that could permanently affect our neighborhoods.

We support responsible growth that benefits Liberty County residents.

But when industrial and economic-development projects receive property-tax incentives or abatements, taxpayers deserve answers:

How much are these incentives costing taxpayers?

Were the promised jobs and investments actually delivered?

What happens when a business never fully opens or later closes?

What did Liberty County taxpayers receive in return?

WE ARE ASKING OUR COUNTY LEADERS TO:

  1. Lower the property-tax millage rate to the full rollback rate or lower.
  2. Clearly show taxpayers where our money is going.
  3. Disclose major tax incentives and whether recipients fulfilled their commitments.
  4. Invest in roads, drainage, parks, sidewalks, beautification and public safety.
  5. Enforce cleanup of dumping, eviction debris and neglected properties.
  6. Give residents a real voice BEFORE approving major developments that affect our neighborhoods and quality of life.

WE PAY THE TAXES.
WE LIVE HERE.
WE DESERVE TO SEE THE RESULTS.

A 65% increase in county M&O property taxes levied in three years should mean visible improvements for the people paying those taxes.

We aren't asking for extravagance.

We are asking for reasonable property taxes, clean and safe communities, responsible growth, transparency and accountability.

It's time for Liberty County residents to be heard.
