The Issue

As an avid animal lover and conservationist, the issue I bring to your attention is deeply personal, heartbreaking and difficult to observe. Online searches will return footage but be warned it is harrowing to view, but it can be stopped, if we keep demanding and end to this torture. Kshamenk, a beautiful orca, has spent most of his life in captivity. Kshamenk was captured at the tender age of five, and since 1991, he has lived in Mundo Marino, Argentina—the only captive orca in the country. Tragically, Kshamenk's tank is far from meeting minimum regulations and significantly aggravates his physical and psychological well-being.

Orcas, which are known to exhibit strong social bonds, suffer from severe psychological trauma when separated from their families. On top of this, Kshamenk's inadequate living conditions cause physiological stress and lead to a lower life expectancy compared to his wild counterparts.

In the wild, orcas can travel up to 100 miles a day. They are active, intelligent mammals that require both physical space and social interaction to be healthy and thriving. When held in captivity, they fall victim to a variety of physical and mental issues, including collapsed dorsal fins, reduced lifespan, increased aggression and abnormal repetitive behaviors is known as stereotypy.

Please help set him free.

Considering the harm captivity inflicts on these intelligent creatures, I urge you to take immediate action to free Kshamenk. Let's return him to a more natural environment where he can thrive and live out his days in peace, and serve as the first step to the greater goal of ending whale and dolphin captivity altogether. Please, sign the petition to help free Kshamenk. #freekshamenk
