Dear friends of Sea-Eye,
Yesterday we received good news from aboard the SEA-EYE 4. 17 people were rescued by our crew from an unseaworthy wooden boat. Among them are nine unaccompanied minors. The crew is now lovingly caring for the people on board.
After this rescue mission, the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center sent our rescue ship to the port of Ortona, more than 1300 km away. The SEA-EYE 4 is expected to take four and a half days to sail this distance. The nearest port, however, would have been much closer at 420 km.
This once again shows the anti-human tactics of the Italian government, which has been assigning far away ports for months and withdrawing rescue ships from the search and rescue area already after the first rescue operation. The intention is to keep rescue ships out of the area of operation. The fact that people are dying as a result is badly inhumane.
Please continue to support our rescue ship with your donation.
Yours, Gorden Isler
- Chairman of Sea-Eye e. V.
