Dear friends of Sea-Eye,
we had to experience the unbelievable on the last rescue mission with the rescue control center of Malta.
The crew of the SEA-EYE 4 witnessed how the Maltese rescue control center violated its duty to coordinate maritime emergencies three times. Neither were Malta's own rescue forces dispatched to the boats, nor were merchant vessels assisted in the rescue. Nor was the SEA-EYE 4, equipped for such rescue operations, called by Malta to assist. Instead, the fleeing people, over 100 in total, were left to the sea and their deaths were accepted.
To our great relief, all people were rescued either by the Italian Coast Guard, merchant ships or the SEA-EYE 4. Nevertheless, we are very concerned about how brutally Malta is acting in the meantime and seemingly as a matter of course.
Another point also worries us a lot. The oil price, which has risen by almost 100%, is putting a severe strain on the expenses for our rescue missions. In addition, our first two missions in 2022 took longer than planned and we spent more days in the operational area in bad weather, using more fuel.
In order to be able to continue sending the SEA-EYE 4 on rescue missions, we are therefore asking you for your donation today. Because we firmly believe that people should not have to drown just because the fuel bill is rising.
Yours, Gorden Isler
