Couple of years ago there was 2 million dollar awarded by the Board of Supervisors of Mohave County Arizona to build a new animal shelter. The old one was built in the 70s and was adequate for the population of Kingman then.

The growth of Kingman has resulted in a growth of the animal population of course, meaning this shelter is now too small. It is housed right next to and between two railroad tracks. This makes it very noisy and stresses the animals out even more than they are when brought into a shelter.

Between the commitment of 2 million dollars a couple of years ago, I believe, another 1 million awarded for extra infrastructure costs.

Because they have been unable to progress since awarding the money and of course covid coming in between the shelter is still not built. The site for the shelter still stands there empty. The staff are working in an old inadequate shelter which has a bug infestation problem and overpopulation of animals constantly.

Animal lovers who know of this situation are to say the least puzzled as to what is going on. We ask, nee demand, that the shelter is built. Not only for the animals but for the dedicated staff working in the old outdated shelter trying to keep these animals safe and well cared for.

No more delays Mohave County. We all know by now extra money will have to come on the table due to inflation since the first moneys were awarded for the building. This shelter needs to be built NOW!
