Roger That Garden Project
Jul 21, 2015
Hello Supporter of Roger That Garden!
As you are aware, this beloved community garden is on the verge of becoming six luxury condos as a small-time real estate developer claimed mysterious ownership of our deed in 2013. There is NO WAY for this and all threatened gardens to be preserved without direct action by citizens like YOU.
What you can do to help:
1. Call City Councilman Robert Cornegy - ask to preserve the space using eminent domain. Buy the land from the developer and maintain this resource as key community infrastructure! Encourage one other to do so as well and increase your reach. Below is a sample script to help you: (718) 919-0740 x. 106 "Let's use the power of eminent domain to make this community space permanent!"
2. Come to Brooklyn Landlord-Tenant Housing court on Tuesday, July 28th. Like our Facebook page for updates and location details!
3. Roger That is open - go use it! Water, compost, weed, chill, picnic, read a book, make it available for neighbors! Email us for more info or come get a key on Wednesday, July 22nd at 7:00 pm. Corner of Rogers Ave and Park Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
Give Council Member Cornegy a call: (718) 919-0740 x. 106 and say "Let's use the power of eminent domain to make this community space permanent!"
- I am a volunteer/supporter of the Roger That Garden and have seen how it has brought people together, beatified the block, and educating youth about food and nature.
- Crown Heights does not need more luxury condos for the 1%. We need this garden to feed, educate, and make people happy - all for free and run by community volunteers.
- Roger That Garden needs help from the Councilman's office to save the garden. We need the Councilman to utilize eminent domain to keep this from being developed on and maintained as a community park. Eminent domain has been used hundreds of times in NYC history to increase resources for the people who live here and we want that to happen right here, right now. Why keep making things easy for companies to divide our neighborhoods for a profit, when the people know what is best for their block?
