Roger That Garden Project
Apr 30, 2015
A couple of folks emailed us this despicable story: http://newyorkyimby.com/…/four-story-building-headed-to-cro… Roger That Garden Project knows that we are a vital community resource and provides (free of cost to the public): rare open space; hands-on science education for local students; recreation opportunities in an area plagued by childhood obesity and diabetes; an access point for growing and learning about healthy food; much needed sustainable infrastructure for rainwater retention, the ability to clean air in an asthma laden neighborhood, and helps conserve native plants. Volunteer lead community green space is far more valuable to local residents than six (most likely unaffordable) apartments. If you feel the same way, contact local NYC Councilman Robert Cornegy's office and tell him how you feel: Stefani Zinerman, Chief of Staff Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. District 36 - Brooklyn (718) 919-0740 x. 106 (District Office) (718) 857-2555 (District Fax) (212) 788-7225 (Legislative Office) szinerman@council.nyc.gov They can help by: 1. Asking Department of Buildings to hold permit approvals until debt is cleared with MTAG, the private servicer of the lien debt (approx. $300K) 2. Initiating a condemnation via eminent domain (or an outright purchase of the property from the city if the owner is willing to sell) to create and protect open space in a neighborhood that desperately needs it. 3. Encouraging an investigation by the DA's office into the propriety of the transaction that put the deed in TYC Realty hands. THIS IS WHAT OUR CITY NEEDS - STAND UP FOR THE GREATER GOOD, STAND UP FOR COMMUNITY GARDENS.
