Dear Supporters,
Thank you for caring about community, caring about nature, and caring about free, healthy food. It is with heavy heart to inform you that, rather than openly communicate with volunteers, local leaders, and the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust, TYC Realty erected a fence around our green space without warning last Thursday (http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20140627/crown-heights/crown-heights-community-garden-boarded-up-as-members-protest).
By promise of developers, gardeners had been awaiting further notice to arrange meetings between TYC and local government. Needless to say, volunteers were taken by surprise and ran to slow construction. Roger That Garden organizers, as well as representatives from the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust and multiple community groups, continue to ask TYC consider the affordable sale of this property to BQLT so that it may remain a public garden in perpetuity. Our neighborhood does not need more 4-story condos! We need open space, participatory citizen projects, affordable food, and environmental education!
Take a stand against development, take a stand for the environment, take a stand for New York City - call your local officials today and tell them you care: http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycgov/menuitem.37cab728c2ffb4aee846f0b001c789a0/#2
Thank you,
The Roger That Garden Project Family
