Let us honour our loved ones in Carmarthen graves

The Issue

Fourteen years ago, my world changed forever with the loss of my daughter. It’s a pain that never truly diminishes. For fourteen years, I’ve found solace in maintaining her grave, adorning it with ornaments and a few personal touches that reflect the love I hold for her. However, recently, the Carmarthen Town Council has introduced restrictions, permitting only one case on gravesites, and banning any additional ornaments.

This new regulation feels like a heartless interference with the way we choose to honour our loved ones. For many, including myself, these grave sites are not just a resting place but a sacred space where we continue to express our everlasting connection.

Let’s be clear—the plot is paid for by us, the families. We should rightfully have the authority to decide how we want it presented, without undue restrictions that limit our personal expressions of grief and love. Such regulations not only add to our emotional burden but also strip us of a significant way to cope with our loss.

It is essential to allow people in Carmarthen to mourn their loved ones in the way that brings them comfort. Imposing stringent rules on a personal family grave is unjust and lacks empathy towards grieving families.

Therefore, I urge the Carmarthen Town Council to reconsider these restrictions and allow personal expressions on graves—be it for babies, children, or adults. We seek the freedom to adorn the graves of our loved ones as a continuous act of love and remembrance without council-imposed limitations.

Sign this petition to support those of us who find comfort in personalizing our family graves, and to ensure that all graves in Carmarthen receive the love and respect that they so rightfully deserve.
