Let Truck Drivers Use Legal Marijuana During Off-Time – Reform DOT Policy Now

The Issue

Truck drivers deserve equal rights when it comes to legal cannabis use during their personal time. Alcohol and tobacco are allowed off-duty—why not marijuana in legal states? It's time for the Department of Transportation to update outdated policies and respect science, fairness, and personal freedom.

We, the undersigned, call for urgent reform of outdated federal regulations that penalize truck drivers for responsibly using marijuana during off-duty hours—even in states where it is completely legal.

🚚 The Problem:
Current DOT regulations treat any cannabis use as a firing offense—even days or weeks after use, even if the driver is fully sober. This approach is unfair and ignores science. Meanwhile, truckers are allowed to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes when off the clock—two substances with proven, harmful health effects.

🧠 A Personal Perspective:
I am a 20-year veteran driver with 3 million safe miles and no accidents. I hike, I stay healthy, and I choose to use cannabis—not alcohol—to decompress and maintain my wellness. Like thousands of other professional drivers, I live in fear of losing my job not for doing anything wrong, but for making a legal, peaceful, personal choice.

⚖️ We Demand Fairness:
We urge the Department of Transportation and lawmakers to:

Update federal testing policy to distinguish impairment from presence.
Respect drivers' rights in legal states to use cannabis when off-duty.
Treat cannabis like alcohol: legal, regulated, and separate from the workplace.
This isn't about cutting corners—it’s about catching up with reality and trusting professionals to manage their lives like responsible adults. Let truckers live. Let us rest. Let us heal.

✍️ Please sign this petition to demand fairness, science-based policy, and respect for America’s drivers.
