Keep Maria and the Tomatis Method in New Zealand to help more children!

Kylie Ujdur started this petition to Hon Kris Faafoi (Associate Minister of Immigration)

In the interests of our people we ask the New Zealand Government to grant Maria Moell Lundqvist and her husband residency immediately to continue their life-changing work with the Tomatis® Method.

Tomatis® was introduced in New Zealand in 2012 by a Swedish immigrant, Maria Moell Lundqvist, and her husband and business partner Fredrik Moell.

Maria is one of the most qualified Tomatis® Consultants in the world.

She is also one of only 9 Licensed Tomatis® International Trainers (Teachers) world-wide.

The Tomatis® Method helps children and adults with auditory processing issues, learning difficulties, stress, anxiety, behaviour, and emotional trauma. It also improves musicality, foreign language learning, speech and vocal quality, attention, and communication.

It is available in 75 countries, backed by scientific research, and has been established in Australia for 23 years.

The Tomatis® Method has been the Gold Standard of auditory training for 60 years and every year 2,400 Tomatis® Practitioners around the world help more than 200,000 children and adults.

Maria was granted a business visa in September 2012 to train and certify new practitioners and provide Tomatis® to children and adults in New Zealand.

Thanks to Maria, there are now 28 licensed practitioners from Northland to Southland - Primary Teachers, Early Childhood Education Teachers, Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour, Special Education Needs Coordinators, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists - all who depend on her for supervision, technical support, and professional development.

Already, the Tomatis® Method has helped more than 500 Kiwi children and adults to improve their lives and learning outcomes. Tomatis® is already used in 7 schools and interest is growing rapidly.

So what's the problem?

Maria and her husband applied for residency when they had fulfilled all the requirements from NZ Immigration: 1) Successful business 2) Full time work for Kiwi employees 3) Value to New Zealand.

Unbeknownst to them, the requirements were changed retroactively and their application declined. The agreed 1) 2) 3) was suddenly not enough: The business turnover had to be bigger!

Today, the turnover is still not “big enough” in Maria and Fredrik’s business because the work of the 28 Practitioners, their private practices, and 500 clients don’t count.

This means that the support and growth of the Tomatis® Method in New Zealand will end, should Maria and Fredrik be denied permanent visas.

An appeal to the Hon Kris Faafoi, associate minister of Immigration, has been made but the outcome is uncertain.

Does it make sense to you?
One of the world's most qualified teachers in the Tomatis® Method, the Gold Standard in auditory training, already helping 500 children, teenagers, and adults in New Zealand, used in 7 schools to improve auditory processing, language learning, dyslexia, stress, and more…  not needed here?

Is this a problem for Maria and her husband? Not really; they are Swedish citizens and entrepreneurs and can work anywhere in the world with Tomatis®.

Is it a problem for New Zealand?
Yes it is. Most of all for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children that Maria and Fredrik already are helping by introducing Tomatis® into our schools. And for us as Tomatis® Practitioners who rely on Maria's expertise, professional development training, technical support, and supervision of our work.

We need your help to keep Tomatis® growing in New Zealand by signing this petition!

Please support us by sharing and encouraging your friends, teachers at your local school, other parents and therapists to sign, and by sharing this petition with your local MP and newspaper.

Maria and Fredrik must stay.
