Let the Earth Breathe

The Issue

The researchers came up with this idea to determine the effect of the current trend, #LetTheEarthBreathe, on the social behavior of students as they cooperate and communicate with other people to spread this trend.

The environment is crucial to the survival of life on Earth. It offers water for drinking and functioning, air for breathing, and soil for vegetation growth. However, there are several issues that are causing harm to life and the earth's environment. As time passes by, the destruction of the planet earth accelerates due to the increased use of plastics, oil, and other fossil fuels. Peter Kalmus, a NASA scientist warned us about having only 3-5 years to live on planet Earth. Climate change is a serious issue that has been surfacing around the world for such a long time. It is the result of many factors caused by different environmental changes, and it rampantly affects us in various ways. Because of this phenomenon, our planet continues to face risks each day without us knowing how long it will hold on. According to the United Nations, the effects of climate change include hotter temperatures, more severe storms, increased drought, a warming and rising ocean, loss of species,  not enough food, more health risks, and poverty and displacement. Neither of these effects is advantageous to our planet, so it is urgent to take action now. This seems overwhelming at first. However, there are things you may do to help.

  1. BE AWARE - Educate yourself and others on the issues on the planet.
  2. HELP SPREAD AWARENESS - There are many ways you may contribute to raising awareness. You may use your social media presence as one strategy. We're all aware of the impact social media may have on our everyday lives. You can use these platforms to reach a broader audience with your message. Although liking, commenting, and sharing posts may not appear to have much of an influence, they do. One tweet has the power to change your thinking. Another strategy is to suggest books and films on the environment. Climate change is a complex concept to understand. We can't see, hear, or feel the consequences of this occurrence right away. If you want to help your friends and family comprehend climate change in a more accessible way, you should offer stuff that does so—which includes books and films.
  3. DELETE UNWANTED EMAILS - Why do emails have such a severe environmental impact? Energy is necessary to process an email. This is also utilized in the production of computer and server systems, as well as in their operation. Fossil fuel power plants use carbon fuels such as coal, oil, or gas to create this energy, which can  harm the environment. Emails transmitted via the Internet are preserved  on a variety of servers throughout the world for future reference. The servers are housed in large data centers, which consume vast amounts of electricity every day. Furthermore, fossil fuels continue to provide the majority of global electricity, contributing to global carbon dioxide emissions.
  4. SAVE WATER - Water conservation is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Reduced water usage lessens your carbon footprint by lowering the amount of energy required to heat, chill, and pump water to your home. Reduced water consumption benefits wetlands ecosystems, such as otters, water voles, herons, and fish, by keeping water levels high.
  5. SAVE ELECTRICITY - Reduced demand for fossil fuels equals less carbon dioxide in the environment, which you may alleviate by lessening your energy usage and consumption. Climate change is caused by carbon dioxide emissions, which results in heat waves, droughts, rising sea levels, erratic weather patterns, and a higher risk of natural disasters. So, saving electricity at home or at work may make a big difference.
  6. UNPLUG ELECTRONICS YOU DON'T USE - Unplugging electronics can help save the environment while also lowering your monthly bills and lengthening their useful life. Since fossil fuels provide the majority of our energy, we may cut our carbon footprints by unplugging ineffective technological equipment.
  7. PLANT MORE TREES - Trees assist in preventing global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide, removing and storing carbon, and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. Trees also cool the temperature by releasing moisture and reflecting heat upwards from their leaves, which reduces wind speeds. More trees planted will help with world reforestation efforts, restoring lost forests, rehabilitating damaged ecosystems, and reducing climate change.

The Earth's resources and gifts are plentiful. If we can use the resources our planet provides us in such a variety of ways, we must also be capable of caring for it, as there is only one Earth. Now is the time for us to begin preserving and striving to save the Earth.
