The issue

There are many great audiobook narrators in the world.
And yet somehow, inexplicably, bafflingly, we are still living in a world where Ted Danson has not been properly unleashed as the warm, wise, funny, emotionally intelligent audiobook narrator we clearly deserve.

Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey is out here drawling us into existential road trips and Morgan Freeman has been narrating the universe itself since 1994. We love them. We respect them. But surely there is room in the Narration Hall of Fame for one more soothing, charismatic voice that doesn’t make us feel like we’re about to contemplate the meaning of time or become a documentary about penguins.

This feels like an oversight. A cultural admin error. A meeting that somehow got skipped.

Ted Danson has one of those rare voices that makes you feel like everything is going to be okay. Warm without being sleepy. Calm without being flat. Funny without trying too hard. Genuine, expressive, textured, and deeply human.

He has spent decades bringing characters to life. He understands timing. He understands humour. He understands how to sit inside a scene, hold emotion, land a line, and make people feel something. That is exactly what great audiobook narration needs.

We are not asking for much.

Just Ted Danson, a beautifully produced audiobook, and several uninterrupted hours of being transported into a story by a voice that feels like a charming lighthouse in human form.
Imagine the possibilities:

  • Mystery novel? Perfect.
  • Memoir? Absolutely.
  • Cosy fiction? Obviously.
  • A dryly funny essay collection? Immediate purchase.
  • Bedtime storytelling for adults who are pretending they are not stressed? Essential public service.

How has this not already happened?

How does Ted not know we want this?

How has Audible not looked at the man, heard the voice, considered the emotional state of the world, and said: “Yes. That. Put him in the booth.”

This petition is a loving, slightly dramatic, entirely reasonable request:

Please get Ted Danson to narrate an audiobook.

  • For the listeners.

  • For the writers.

  • For the people who want to be sent gently to sleep or carried away into another world.

  • For anyone who has ever heard Ted Danson speak and thought, “I would listen to that man read literally anything.”

Audible, Amazon, publishers, Ted’s people, whoever needs to see this:

The microphone is waiting.
