Last Sunday the mayor of Amarante had dinner at a restaurant in this city, and felt annoyed by the presence of some strays nearby. So, the next day he called the city vet and had some dogs killed right there; others were taken to the city kennel, together with plastic bags that seemed to contain cadavers. Two days after all dogs had disappeared. The complaints of distraught citizens were met with the answer that the city council had lawyers who had won all cases for far.

But in a democracy you don’t silence your people. So, I ask for your help against the meanness of those who feel entitled to have animals killed as a whim and to mistreat those who use their lawful right to speak out. This petition intends to denounce the evil and illegal action of those who don’t respect the existent law against animal abuse, and who to help this from ever happening again.
