We are ENHYPEN fans who love and support not only the group but also the cultural exchange and friendship between Korea and Japan.
We are writing this petition to call for an end to the controversy and excessive criticism surrounding ENHYPEN’s alleged use of the word “jap” during a recent Weverse live listening party.

During a live stream on Weverse, Sunghoon of ENHYPEN was accused of using the word “jap,” which is known as a slur against Japanese people. However, it is essential to clarify that he did not intentionally use this term.

What actually happened was a simple spelling mistake: while trying to say “good job,” Sunghoon, who is not a native English speaker, accidentally wrote the word as he would pronounce it in Korean, resulting in the unintended appearance of the word “jap.” This was a genuine error in spelling, not an act of disrespect or malice.

It’s also important to note that the other members’ laughter was not directed at Japan or Japanese people. ENGENEs—ENHYPEN’s fans—know well that Sunghoon has made this kind of English spelling mistake before, and the members were amused by Sunghoon repeating a familiar, harmless error. There was absolutely no intention to use a slur or to cause harm or disrespect. The incident was blown out of proportion by those who wanted to create division.

Sunghoon responded on his Weverse account, explaining the situation and stating clearly that there was no intent to insult anyone. His words showed genuine respect and care for all. After the incident, ENHYPEN went ahead with their scheduled activities in Japan. The event was completed successfully, and Japanese fans continued to show strong support and love. This proves that the bond between ENHYPEN and Japanese fans is built on trust and mutual respect.

Right now, exchanges between Korea and Japan are more active and positive than ever. It’s heartbreaking to see some people using this incident to stir up hatred and division. We believe that those who try to amplify this controversy are not interested in proper understanding, but in blocking the growing friendship between our countries.
ENHYPEN and other K-pop artists have always worked hard to bring Korea and Japan closer together through music, performances, and fan events.

We ask those who are calling for ENHYPEN’s suspension in Japan to reconsider. Such extreme actions only deepen misunderstandings and hurt the spirit of cultural exchange. Instead, let’s focus on dialogue, understanding, and respect.

今回、最近のWeverseライブリスニングパーティーでENHYPENが"jap"という言葉を使ったとされる件についての論争や過度な批判をやめてほしいと思い、このメッセージを書いています。

Weverseのライブ配信中、ENHYPENのSunghoonが"jap"という、日本人に対する差別用語として知られている言葉を使ったと非難されました。しかし、彼がその言葉を意図的に使ったわけではないことをはっきりさせたいです。

実際に起きたことは、単なるスペルミスでした。Sunghoonは英語が母語ではなく、「good job」と言おうとしたとき、韓国語の発音のまま書いてしまい、偶然"jap"という単語が現れてしまったのです。これは本当にただのスペルミスであり、悪意や無礼の意図はまったくありませんでした。

また、他のメンバーが笑ったのも、日本や日本人をバカにしたわけではありません。ENGENE（ENHYPENのファン）はよく知っていますが、Sunghoonは以前にもこうした英語のスペルミスをしたことがあり、メンバーたちは彼がまた同じ無害なミスをしたことを面白がっただけです。差別用語を使うつもりも、誰かを傷つけたり無礼にするつもりも全くありませんでした。この出来事は、分断を煽ろうとする一部の人たちによって大げさに広められてしまいました。

Sunghoon本人もWeverseで状況を説明し、誰かを侮辱する意図はなかったとはっきり伝えました。彼の言葉からは、すべての人への本当の敬意と気遣いが感じられました。その後、ENHYPENは予定通り日本での活動を行い、イベントも無事に終わりました。日本のファンも変わらず強い応援と愛を送ってくれました。これは、ENHYPENと日本のファンとの絆が信頼と相互の尊重の上に成り立っていることを証明しています。

今、韓国と日本の交流はこれまで以上に活発で前向きです。このような出来事を利用して憎しみや分断を煽る人がいるのは本当に悲しいことです。私たちは、この論争を大きくしようとする人たちは、正しい理解ではなく、両国の友情の発展を妨げたいだけだと考えています。  
ENHYPENをはじめとするK-POPアーティストたちは、音楽やパフォーマンス、ファンイベントを通じて、韓国と日本の距離を縮めるためにずっと努力してきました。

日本でのENHYPEN活動停止を求める声を上げている方々には、ぜひ考え直してほしいです。そうした極端な行動は、誤解を深め、文化交流の精神を傷つけるだけです。
