Let's Preserve the Natural Beauty of Our Shades Creek Greenspace

The Issue

Hey neighbor,

Are you aware of the drastic changes planned for our Shades Creek greenspace that we all love and enjoy? They are planning on building a 10' wide asphalt sidewalk 1.27 miles long right through the middle of our park area that will run along Shades Creek, from Flora Johnston/Elder all the way down to Groover/Shiloh. This will include cutting down some mature trees as well as adding large bridges. Also, there will be leash enforcement for all dogs in the park. There has been no traffic study performed and no accommodations have been made for increased street traffic so visitors to the new 10' asphalt sidewalk will be parking in front of our homes. At a taxpayer expense of over $2 million this is a waste of resources and with a finished asphalt coverage area of roughly 67,000 sq ft it will be devastating to the biodiversity of Shades Creek. Join your neighbors and sign the petition to let the city of Birmingham know that we do not want this to be completed as planned.

We encourage you to visit our Facebook page and to add any comments you may have as well as to post pictures of the times and ways in which you've enjoyed this part of Shades Creek.

Preserving Shades Creek's natural beauty will benefit us all. Please sign the petition today and do your part to protect our neighborhood greenspace. We don't want it, we don't need it and this is not an improvement for us. It's never too late for the City of Birmingham to do the right thing.
