Let's Improve the Haltom City Animal Shelter

Let's Improve the Haltom City Animal Shelter
The Issue
Seven dogs, found in a severely neglectful situation on Carson
Street have endured unimaginable hardships. They have been chained up without food or water, lack of stimulation, veterinary care and companionship. Their lives have been nothing short of a struggle. Despite their circumstances, they remain friendly and full of potential for rehabilitation into a loving home environment.
However, animal control in Haltom City, Texas could possibly euthanize
these innocent animals, before they even get a chance to be observed
and/or allowed to decompress and be evaluated to determine their full
potential, instead be discarded and destroyed, like so many others. This decision not only disregards the opportunity for these dogs recovery, and for them to have a chance at a life they deserve. It also violates ethical animal treatment standards.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA),
euthanasia should only be considered when an animal's suffering cannot
be alleviated or if it poses a significant risk to public safety (AVMA
Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals). Neither condition applies here
as these dogs are friendly and have yet to undergo behavioral assessment.
We urge Haltom City Animal Control to give consideration before making a
hasty decision and allow each dog an opportunity for behavioral
assessment before determining their fate. It is our responsibility as
compassionate citizens to ensure that every effort is made towards
rehabilitating animals who have had unfortunate beginnings, such as these
7 dogs who deserve a chance, rather than resorting immediately to
euthanasia because of lack of an available vet on-site.
Change needs to happen for this shelter to accommodate a vet for special needs - whether that happens by budget changes, fundraisers or seeking out grants.
Please sign this petition urging city leaders and council in Haltom City to not just save these seven lives, but to also adopt more humane
practices moving forward.
