Let's Get Missouri Department of Transportation to Enhance Roadway Visibility

The Issue

I, like many others that drive on Missouri's roads, have experienced many near accidents due to poor roadway visibility during night and inclement weather. The stories that echo in our communities of drivers failing to maintain their lanes in the rain highlight a serious and urgent issue that requires immediate action. This is why we ask the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to increase overall roadway safety by adding reflective material or aggregate to the roadway stripping paint.

According to the National Safety Council, poor road visibility is involved in 50% of all fatal car accidents that take place between sunset and sunrise, despite this period only encompassing 25% of our day. Reflective road markings, however, have shown to decrease off-road accidents by 32% according to the European Union Road Federation. This small change could be monumental in keeping our roads safer in Missouri.

We need to fight for our safety and that of our loved ones. The thinner the line between life and death, the clearer we see the importance of better visibility on our roads. Let's compel MoDOT to act now and ensure that our roads are safe for everyone, regardless of day or night, rain or shine. Please sign and share this petition to make a positive change in our community.
