Let Riders Flag Disability or Mobility Needs on Uber, Bolt, Lyft and similar Profiles

The Issue

Ride-share apps should let users add a visible, optional note or badge to their profile indicating mobility needs—such as requiring curbside pickup, avoiding long walks, or needing help locating the vehicle. This gives drivers a chance to adjust their approach respectfully and ensures a more dignified experience for disabled passengers.

The Problem

Many riders with disabilities or temporary mobility issues can’t always get to confusing pickup spots like loading zones, faraway curbs, or platform exits.

Currently, there’s no persistent, pre-set way to alert drivers unless you text them each time.

This is particularly important where some customers may only be using ride share apps BECAUSE of a temporary issue they are recovering from, and ride share is only useful if they aren't going to experience stress and risk exacerbating their injuries.

I have personally had this experience along the road of recovering from chronic back pain, and have encountered many drivers who have said they would be happy to accommodate challenged customers if they were aware of the adjustments needed, eg. coming up a steep driveway, or knowing the importance of dropping off the customer at the exact destination entered into the app.

The Solution

Add a “mobility-aware” flag or profile setting that stays visible to drivers before arrival.
Let users optionally include notes like “Can’t walk far,” “Wheelchair user,” or “Pickup near entrance only.”

There is already a feature in place for drivers with limitations to communicate those details to passengers; making it a two-way street can only help make ride interactions smoother and more positive.

The Benefits

More inclusive design
Better experiences for passengers and drivers
Reduces ride cancellations or miscommunications

Who Should Listen

Uber, Bolt, Lyft, FreeNow, and other ride-share platforms.
