The issue

Our family is made up of Mum, Christin Das, a Registered Nurse working in the Emergency Department at Bendigo Health, Dad, Jineesh Joseph, a qualified chef and full-time caregiver, and our two children, Jaziel (6) and Hazel (2). We have been living in Bendigo, Victoria since 2023 and have built our lives here with hope, dignity, and a deep commitment to contributing to Australian society.

Our son Jaziel has developmental challenges, and because of this, our application for permanent residency has been refused.

This has left us heartbroken and uncertain about our future.

Christin works as a nurse in a busy Emergency Department, caring for patients in critical situations, often during times of high demand and workforce shortages. Jineesh, as a qualified chef, is part of another industry that continues to face staff shortages across Australia. Together, we are contributing to sectors that are essential to the community and the country.

Before coming to Australia, we were living a stable and secure life in Ireland, where Christin had a good job and our family was well settled. When we applied for a visa to Australia, we were completely honest about our son’s condition. Our visa was granted, and based on that decision, we made the life-changing move to Australia.

If our visa had been refused at that time, we would have continued our life in Ireland without any issue.

But now, after building our life here, we are in a situation where we cannot stay in Australia, and we cannot return to the life we once had. We feel lost, with no clear path forward.

Our children are growing up here. This is their home.

If we are forced to leave, Jaziel will lose the support system that is helping him grow every day. In Australia, he is receiving care, understanding, and opportunities that are helping him slowly build his skills and confidence. Without this environment, his progress may be set back significantly. We fear he will struggle to access the same level of support, face social isolation, and miss out on the chance to reach his full potential. As parents, it is heartbreaking to think that a decision like this could take away the future we are trying so hard to build for him.

Jaziel is a loving and gentle child who is trying his best every day. Australia has given him the support and environment he needs to grow and improve. Taking that away from him would deeply affect his future.

As parents, all we want is a fair chance for our son — to grow, to learn, and to live with dignity.

We are hardworking people who contribute to the community and ask only for the opportunity to stay and continue building our lives here.

Please support our family by signing this petition.

Your support can help give our children the future they deserve.
