The Issue

We are launching a petition to request equal access to the Grant High School football stadium for our Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer teams.

Our goal is simple: to provide our student-athletes with the same opportunities, facilities, and support that our football program enjoys. Soccer is growing rapidly in our community, and our players deserve a safe, well-lit, and welcoming environment for their games—just like any other sport.

The high school football stadium offers features that our current soccer field cannot:

• Lighting for evening games

• Ample parking and safe surroundings

• Seating for families and fans

• A secure and professional atmosphere

• The ability to host home games and raise funds through gate admissions

Currently, our soccer teams play on a field with no lights, minimal seating, and limited safety. Balls frequently go into nearby roads, causing delays and safety risks for players, coaches, and spectators. Additionally, there have been concerns about unknown individuals appearing during games, creating an uncomfortable environment.

There is a misconception that soccer cleats cause more damage to turf than football cleats, but research shows otherwise. In fact, football cleats are often more damaging due to their deeper, more aggressive studs. Many schools successfully share their stadium fields between soccer and football programs with no issues.

We deeply respect and support our football and middle school teams, and we believe in working together for the benefit of all our students. A shared-use plan or designated days can easily be arranged to accommodate both sports fairly.

This is about equity, safety, and supporting our student-athletes. Soccer players work just as hard, train just as long, and represent our school with just as much pride. They deserve the same chance to play on a quality field in front of their community.

We invite you to sign this petition and help us create a more inclusive, safe, and encouraging environment for all our athletes.

Thank you for supporting the Grant High School Soccer Program!
