Footy Colours Day is a special opportunity for students to come together, show school spirit and support their favourite teams, but not at Ilim College. At Ilim, we are forced to wear long skirts on a day of sthletic pride, restricting us from playing our sports and enjoying the day at all.

This is also our only out-of-uniform day, which makes it something we look forward to. However, the current guidelines require us to still wear the school uniform bottom half, meaning we aren't able to fully come out of uniform.

A Footy Day is a sporting event, not an event where we should be forced to wear skirts. We can have our out of uniform day without unnecessary strict rulings. We can also wear modest clothing without having to wear a long skirt, interfering with any enthusiastic athletes and not allow them to play their favourite sport with pride.

It is not fair to have this annual privilege taken away from us, as we already lost Athletics day, Book Week and many more events.

We understand that, as an Islamic girls’ school, there are important expectations around modesty, appropriate clothing and Islamic values, and we completely respect those expectations.

Our request is to wear and show our teams with pride, without any silly restrictions:

For example, students could wear:

Modest, prayable football jerseys or team shirts
Loose-fitting sports pants or appropriate long bottoms
School-appropriate footwear
Clothing that meets the school's modesty requirements
We believe this would make Footy Colours Day feel more meaningful while still maintaining the standards expected of students at our school.

We are asking the school to reconsider the current guidelines and allow Footy Colours Day to be a genuine out-of-uniform day, with appropriate modesty requirements still in place.

This is our opportunity to show our colours, celebrate together and enjoy some school spirit — while continuing to represent our school and its values.
