It is shown in research that the average middle schooler has 1-1:30 hours of homework PER NIGHT. Three Penny Press talks about how a survey they did include freshmen, 43 sophomores, 54 juniors, and 54 seniors on average. When asked how many hours students spent on homework in a day on average, answers ranged from zero to more than nine with an average of about four hours. This is per night. Now have that times 5 for just one week of school. It is also shown in research that tons of homework can lead to increased stress and anxiety. Also, tons of homework can also cause sleep deprivation because kids can be up late at night just to finish their homework so their grades don't start dropping.

Teachers need to also understand that some homework assignments are easy for some students and hard for others. One assignment might usually take 5 minutes for most of the class but for one student they could be up for hours studying with their parent/parents so they don't dissapoint their teacher/teachers. Teachers, stop stressing out your kids and start giving them less homework!
