Lenient correct for class X mathematics board examination 2025-26 batch

The Issue

We, the students of the 2025–26 batch, respectfully submit this petition to bring to your attention our serious concerns regarding the Mathematics Board Examination conducted this year.

A significant number of students found the paper excessively lengthy, making it difficult to complete within the allotted time whether it was a standard paper or basic paper. In all the sets many questions required extensive calculations, including the MCQs, which are generally expected to be relatively less time consuming. Despite thorough preparation, students struggled to attempt all questions properly due to the time constraint.

Furthermore, it was observed that the question paper did not reflect the pattern or level of questions provided in the NCERT textbook, previous years’ board papers, CBSE sample papers released this year, or the Sahodaya examination papers. These resources are traditionally relied upon to understand the expected format and difficulty level. The absence of comparable questions created confusion and distress among examinees.

Additionally, a case-based question reportedly included concepts aligned with Class XI Mathematics, which was beyond the prescribed Class X syllabus. This added to the anxiety and uncertainty during the examination.

Overall, students across all sets have expressed that the paper was unusually challenging and demanded deep conceptual thinking at a complex level. As this was the first board examination experience for these students, the unexpected difficulty has significantly affected their confidence and mental well being. Many students have experienced considerable stress as a result.

In light of these circumstances, we humbly request the Board to consider lenient evaluation, moderation of marks, or appropriate relief measures. Immediate action is essential to uphold equity and credibility in the assessment process. A timely review whether through moderation, lenient evaluation, or reconsideration of disputed questions would reassure students that their concerns are being acknowledged. Acting promptly will not only reduce widespread anxiety but also reinforce confidence in the fairness and integrity of the board examination system.

We sincerely hope that the Board will take our concerns into consideration and act in the interest of justice and equal opportunity for all students.
