GILROSE CEMETRY, let our babies rest in peace
The Issue
Following the death of our first son in Oct 2007 we attended a local co-op funeral services to arrange a funeral. We were offered just 1 type of burial with just 1 cost available. Following our sons funeral it became apparent they were 2 different grave types at Gilrose Cemetry, Ansty Lane, Leicester. We had been mis-sold a lawned grave. At which time we discovered we were to only be aloud a headstone with a 15cm border for flowers.
We soon discovered many other parents had also unknowingly been sold these plots. The space between the 2 different grave types is simply just a 2m path. You look one side to see resting places full of toys, windmills and trinkets. Then you look to where out dear son Haden is buried to find plain graves containing just a single memorial.
Over time ourselves and many other parents have attempted to leave trinkets, gifts, fencing, borders ect. Each time the local council with total disegaurd and care simply remove all items and throw them into black bags by the side of the road. Many parents have tried putting notices on with borders saying 'please leave this grave, we was not given a choice and we will tend to it'.
Our sons most recent decoration has been in place for 2 years with not a word heard. Then suddenly with total disreguard they hammer of a wooden post right over the top of where out son lies. Telling us items will be removed. They has been no corrispondence via teletphone, emails, post. Even though they were given full up to date contact information.
We are doing no harm, his place is always care for and looks immaulate. We even pay an independent company to tend to his grave and mow his grass. This is mainly down to the incompentence of the ground staff within the cemetry. They are incapable of keeping the cemetry clean and neat. They mow down memorials, brake items and run memorials over with there lawnmowers. Headstones become completely covered in grass shavings which easily become stuck on to the granite and requires some force to clean.
We have been told our only option at this point is to go through the distress of exhuming our sons body and moving him literally over a path to the other side. Not only would this cause incredible distress to us as a family it would disturb him being at peace. It would be required to go through alot of red tape and even a ministry of justice application.
This has effected many. Why should our babies be treated this way? We want to be able to leave items for them and decorate there final resting places. How has so many parents been mis sold graves when at there most vunerable? How has no action been taken sooner? Why should we have to take the inhumane step in disturbing out babies in there final resting places, to simply move them over a path? all due to the incompentence of the funeral directors/local authroity. Why cant we use the 15cm border for other items aswell as flowers?
