Continuing Mountain biking at Trexler Nature Preserve – Make your rides count!
The Issue
Stand up and be counted: Lehigh County Parks together with Wildlands conservancy is embarking on a significant program to eliminate Autumn Olive, an invasive species of tree, from a large section of the Trexler Nature Preserve. VMB is a longtime partner of Wildlands and Lehigh County and fully supports the effort remove the Autumn Olive and replace it with native nesting grasses. Unfortunately the work will affect sections of the mountain bike trails. VMB, the Parks and Wildlands are working together in hopes that the mountain bike trail system can be maintained after the work is completed.
This petition is an effort to raise awareness and gather support for the trail system and identify how many mountain bike riders utilize the park so land managers can better understand the user groups. Stand up and be counted and help ensure the interests of mountain bikers are considered.
About VMB:
Valley Mountain Bikers (VMB) is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to facilitate and promote an active outdoor lifestyle centered on mountain biking in the Lehigh Valley through organized rides, social activities, and family events. Our group works with local and state authorities to build and maintain trail systems in regional parks. VMB has developed two very successful trail systems - 12 miles of biking/hiking trails in Walking Purchase Park in Salisbury Township and 10 mile trail network in Nockamixon state Park. We are currently working on a third trail system at Trexler Game Preserve. These trail systems are the focal point for our many community events that include “The Steel City Enduro Race”, “Trexfest Halloween Enduro”; a family bike event that attracted more than 200 families from the Lehigh Valley. Trexfest complements our family events like our annual Easter egg hunt and nationally recognized “Take your kid mountain biking” – events focused on exposing young children to the fun of off-road cycling. Our efforts are 100% supported by dedicate and passionate groups of volunteers - groups that donate hundreds of hours of personal time to make it all happen. As a non-profit, all of our proceeds from fundraising activities (race proceeds) and membership dues go toward trail building/maintenance and event financing.
Be a part of this community, and strengthen mountain biking’s position with land managers and local authorities to maintain and expand trail access.
