LEGO: Show us unreleased Galidor content

The Issue

For those unfamiliar, Galidor is a LEGO theme from 2002, based around buildable action figures with swappable limbs. The toys were supplemented by a major production sci-fi tv show which ran for two seasons, as well as video games, McDonald's toys, and other promotions. The toys did not sell well enough to support the brand, and it was unceremoniously and quickly cancelled with much of its planned development hidden away, never to be seen by the public.

It's now 16 years since Galidor started, and there are more Galidor fans in the LEGO community than you might think. We make Galidor creations of out of Galidor and/or regular LEGO, create fan artwork for the show and the toys, use resin-casting and sculpting to recreate or imagine new toys, and generally spread the word that Galidor is an idea that should be celebrated. There was even a four-table-long display of galidor creations at Brickfair Virginia 2018, one of the largest LEGO conventions in the world!

This is a message to LEGO and their legal team. We Galidor fans are out here, and we are numerous. We want nothing more than to see as much of the unreleased creative work that went into Galidor as possible! Concept art, prototype/unreleased toys, TV/Movie scripts, anything and everything. (But especially the prototype toys! )

You might ask yourself, "What does LEGO stand gain by exhibiting unreleased Galidor content?" Take a look at how many people signed the petition. Every single one of these people is an active LEGO fan. Most are old enough to have seen Galidor as a kid or been give the toys, and now are working adults with budgets for Lego products. Most of us are artists, who use LEGO bricks to create original models, which we share online in high-profile social communities. If you give us more Galidor content, it will be fuel in the machine that is our creative endeavor. We will create, and we will need to buy more LEGO to do so.

We cannot promise a lot. If we could, we'd be telling you that it would be profitable to bring Galidor back entirely! But we're not asking for much either. We understand that it's important to LEGO to protect their intellectual property so that it's not copied by competitors or so that it may be used in future products. But the toy designs and planned content for Galidor are highly specialized products created for engaging the youth of a decade long past, and we think that the spectacular failure of the toys and lack of knockoffs is proof enough that these ideas are no longer worth pursuing commercially. The most good that these creations can do for the world is to be shared with those who will cherish them :)

And if you're worried about expensing the effort of releasing this content, we think you'll even find that there are Galidor fans within the LEGO company who would gladly donate their time to help realize the goal of sharing new Galidor content with the world!
