Canada, stop separating spouses in long term care!
The Issue
Stop separating spouses in long term care.
People suffer the consequences of these separations emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally, socially and materially.
Every family is affected by the current practice of separating spouses according to their care needs. You and I can be separated from our spouses, in our elder years, at a vulnerable time, because bureaucratic decision making has made this inhumane practice common place. Stop this inhumane, harmful practice. Allow spouses the choice of staying with their partner when their partner needs a higher level of daily care.
Follow Nova Scotia's example and allow spouses the choice to stay together
Health care provision is in provincial jurisdiction. Urge all of our provincial legislators to pass legislation and follow Nova Scotia's example to give the choice back to spouses to choose to continue to share their daily lives together. Stop separating spouses against their own volition.
