I am a resident of Las Vegas, NV and like many others in our community, I have always harbored a deep fascination for exotic animals. My friends and I dream of legally owning pets like foxes, crocodilians, meerkats, snapping turtles, gars, etc. We believe that with proper care and regulations these animals can be ethically kept as pets.

In the United States alone there are approximately 13.6 million households that own exotic pets (American Pet Products Association). These animals can provide unique companionship while also teaching us about biodiversity and conservation. However, current laws in Nevada restrict ownership of these specific species.

We are not advocating for unregulated ownership. Instead we propose a system where potential owners must meet strict criteria to ensure they can provide suitable habitats and care for these creatures. This could include mandatory education programs on proper care techniques or regular inspections by animal welfare officers.

By allowing responsible ownership of these exotic species we can foster an appreciation for wildlife within our community while ensuring the wellbeing of the animals involved is paramount.
