LEGALIZE SAUNA MPLS

The Issue

Sauna businesses are currently prohibited from operating outside of the B4 Central Business district of downtown Minneapolis because of archaic laws that classify saunas as a sexually oriented business. The Sauna community of Minneapolis has grown immensely over the past several years and the health benefits of regular sauna use has become widely accepted. The current city ordinances are prohibiting Minneapolis residents from having access to the benefits of regular sauna use and we believe the laws need to be changed immediately.

At Embrace North, our Vision from the beginning has been to give as many people as possible, affordable access to Sauna and Cold therapy, which currently does not exist in the marketplace. Our community has exploded over the past 2 years, ballooning to over 900 people using our saunas daily. We now face an existential crises because of these outdated ordinances and we need your help to change them. On March 3 the city will shut down Embrace North unless we are able to get a temporary permit to operate until we can work out a long term solution with the city.

Minnesota has a rich history of sauna and we have the potential to make Minneapolis the Sauna capital of the United States, but it can only happen after we change these arbitrary ordinances.

What we want:

  1. A permit allowing sauna businesses to stay open while we figure out a path forward with the city.
  2. Remove "Saunas" from Section 3 - 1963 Ordinance.
  3. Make a provision to allow mobile sauna businesses in Minneapolis that allows mobile saunas to be operated "outside".
