Legalize RV and Trailer Homesteading on Private Rural Lands in Washington State

Legalize RV and Trailer Homesteading on Private Rural Lands in Washington State
The Issue
I am a resident of Washington State who dreams of a simple, affordable life. A life that doesn't require extensive construction work or the burdensome costs associated with traditional housing. I envision living in a trailer nestled within the woods, accompanied by a modest workshop. The ability to easily relocate my home in case of natural disasters like floods is an added advantage that this lifestyle offers.
However, current laws in our state restrict such dreams from becoming reality. As per existing regulations, RV owners (including trailers, motorhomes, and tiny houses) are required to move their vehicles or vacate them every 180 days. This law hinders us from establishing stable homes and communities on rural private lands. In addition, it deprives people who live in alternative housing the right to a residential address, to receive official mail, presenting numerous needless obstacles.
I have friends who have had varying difficulties with these laws, ranging from one who designed and built an absolutely beautiful tiny house (he put his heart and soul into it, but was unable to legally use it), and another who moved to Tennessee to be able to homestead. Some people have found numerous workarounds. Wouldn't it be easier for everyone if we could homestead on our own land in Washington?
Our neighboring state Oregon has recently passed SB 1013 which recognizes RVs as residences and permits one per rural lot. This progressive move has opened doors for many seeking alternative housing solutions while respecting the environment.
The time has come for Washington to follow suit and revise its outdated laws regarding homesteading on private rural lands using RVs and trailers. By doing so, we can provide affordable housing options for many residents like myself who want to live simply yet comfortably.
Let's stand together for change! Sign this petition urging lawmakers in Washington State to legalize RV and trailer homesteading on private rural lands.
