Legalize Polyamorous Relationships and Marriages in the United States
The Issue
My name is not unique, not strange, not an exception; I am just like anyone else. I am polyamorous and I sincerely believe that if I have the ability to love my first partner, I have the capacity to love another in the same way and should be able to marry them. This is a deeply personal issue to me and many others that value the liberty to love without borders.
Love is a fundamental human right that should not be subject to restrictions based on legislative norms. In the United States, where we hold individual freedom in high regard, it's a contradiction that polyamorous relationships are not given legal status. While there's a growing acceptance of diverse relationship structures, with a study showing that one in five Americans have been in a consensually non-monogamous relationship at least once in their life (Rubin et al., 'Consensual Nonmonogamy: Psychological Well-Being and Relationship Quality Correlates,' The Journal of Sex Research, 2014), our laws have not yet evolved to echo this change.
Sign this petition to call on legal institutions and lawmakers in the United States to recognize and legalize polyamorous relationships, allowing the individuals involved the same rights and protections available to two-party marriages. Let us advance the dialogue towards true freedom in relationships and achieve equality for all, regardless of how they love. Stand with us. Demonstrate your support. Shape a more open, more accepting future for love in all its forms. Please sign this petition.
