I miss my pet rabbit. This simple, heartfelt sentiment is shared by many residents of Queensland, Australia who are currently prohibited from owning rabbits as pets due to the Biosecurity Act 2014. The law was enacted to protect local agriculture and biodiversity from potential damage caused by wild rabbits. However, it also prevents responsible pet owners from enjoying the companionship of these gentle creatures.

Rabbits can make wonderful pets - they are intelligent, social animals that can form strong bonds with their human caretakers. In other parts of Australia and around the world, people have experienced the joy and benefits of having a rabbit as a pet without causing harm to local ecosystems or agriculture.

We believe that with proper regulation and enforcement, it's possible for Queenslanders to own rabbits responsibly without posing a threat to our precious environment. We propose amendments to the Biosecurity Act 2014 that would allow for responsible ownership of domesticated rabbits under strict conditions such as mandatory desexing and microchipping.

The current ban on pet rabbits in Queensland separates families from beloved pets and denies others the opportunity to experience this unique bond. It's time we change this law for all those who miss their pet rabbit like I do.
