Microblading of the eyebrow a legal service for salons & spas

Microblading of the eyebrow a legal service for salons & spas

In the state of South Carolina, Cosmetologist & Estheticians can only perform microblading in the setting of a medical practice. This affects so many licensed professionals who want to branch out and add services to their business, but can not because microblading is under the State Board Of Medical Examiners. This would mean we would have to find a seperate place to practice under a doctors supervision, which is not feasible for everyone. I myself own a hair & wax studio and would LOVE to offer this service to my guests. If you take a closer look at how this treatment is done, It is actually a semi-permanent procedure where pigment is scratched into the skin. With tons of research on the acutual "technicians" doing the service, most of them are licensed cosmetologist and/or estheticians. With that being said if doctors are hiring "us" to perform the service, we should be allowed to perform them in our salon setting. Many states across the US allows liciensed professionals to perform this service in a salon setting including my home state which is Maryland. With the proper training and santitation practice, their is no resason why we shouldn't be allowed to perform this service with out the medical board. Its time for South Carolina to allow us the same privilages as Georgia, Florida, North Carloina, Maryland and so many other states. Its sad we are always the last state to get thing done. I think its time for change
South Carolina Board of Cosmetology needs to allow licensed professions the right to perform microblading with out the assistance of the medical board. I feel if we can perform Brazilian waxes on clients, which in my opinion is more invasive than any service out there, then we should be able to perform microblading in our salons and spa with proper sanititation laws.
**The solution is simple, make microblading of the eyebrow a legal tattoo and allow our Local County Environmental Health Office the overseer of permitting of our facility.**
