Legalize LGBTQ Rights in the UAE

Legalize LGBTQ Rights in the UAE
The Issue
I am a Muslim and I want to live in the UAE. However, being gay, this is a challenge for me. The UAE is a melting pot of nations and cultures, yet it doesn't fully embrace the diversity within its borders. This petition seeks to legalize LGBTQ rights in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while presenting Quranic evidence that supports LGBTQ as halal.
In Islam, compassion and justice are core values. There are interpretations of Quranic texts that argue for inclusivity and acceptance of all human beings regardless of their sexual orientation (Kugle, 2010). We believe these interpretations should be considered when discussing LGBTQ rights within an Islamic context.
The UAE has made strides towards tolerance with its Year of Tolerance initiative in 2019 but there's still work to be done. According to Human Rights Watch 2020 report, despite some progress on women’s rights, authorities continue to discriminate against individuals based on their sexual orientation.
We urge the government officials in the UAE to reconsider their stance on homosexuality from an Islamic perspective using inclusive interpretations of our holy book - The Quran - and extend equal rights protection under law for all citizens irrespective of their sexual orientation.
Let us stand together for justice, compassion and equality as taught by our faith. Please sign this petition if you believe everyone deserves respect and dignity regardless of who they love.
