Legalize LGBTQ+ marriage in India

Legalize LGBTQ+ marriage in India

The Issue

I'm bisexual and hold firm to the belief that nothing wrong will happen if I marry a girl. In a world striving for equality and acceptance, it's disheartening to live in a society where who I choose to love is scrutinized and deemed unacceptable by the law. LGBTQ+ individuals in India continue to face social and legal discrimination, simply because the law does not acknowledge their right to marry whom they love.

The lack of legal recognition for LGBTQ+ marriages in India not only marginalizes countless individuals but also contradicts the fundamental principles of equality enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The Supreme Court of India already decriminalized homosexuality in 2018, which was a monumental step forward. It is now time to take the next step by recognizing and legalizing LGBTQ+ marriages, thereby truly ensuring equality for all.

Marriage is more than just a legal bond; it is an acknowledgment of love, commitment, and the building of family. By denying LGBTQ+ individuals the right to marry, we deny them these powerful affirmations of their identities and love.

Countries around the world such as the USA, UK, Canada, and many others have already embraced love in all its forms by legalizing same-sex marriage. It's high time that India joins this progressive league of nations, deepening its respect for individual rights and freedoms.

There is verifiable evidence that legalizing same-sex marriage boosts mental health among LGBTQ+ communities, reduces discrimination, and promotes a more inclusive society. According to the UNAIDS report, countries that recognize same-sex marriage often see decreasing stigma and improved national well-being.

Sign this petition to urge the lawmakers in India to legalize LGBTQ+ marriage. By doing so, we take a significant step towards equality, love, and acceptance for all individuals. Your support is crucial in turning this dream into reality for the millions of LGBTQ+ individuals in India who wish to live their lives freely and proudly. Please add your voice to this movement for change and sign this petition.
