Legalize Jhatka Meat Production, Distribution, and Serving

Legalize Jhatka Meat Production, Distribution, and Serving

The Issue

I am a regular consumer of meat. However, every time I visit the local butcher shop, they use Halal method. When I purchase packaged meat from the market, I see the Halal logo on packaging. When dining out at restaurants, menus state that their meat is cut using the Halal method. While I respect this practice and those who follow it, witnessing the pain animals endure during this process deeply disturbs me.

As a follower of Hinduism and Sikhism which allow consumption of Jhatka meat only - where an animal is killed instantaneously to minimize suffering - my choices are limited due to current regulations. This isn't just about personal preference; it's about having options that align with our beliefs and values.

The demand for Jhatka meat isn't insignificant either. With millions of Hindus and Sikhs living in our country who prefer Jhatka over Halal due to religious reasons or concerns for animal welfare, there's a clear need for change.

We're not asking for an end to Halal practices but rather advocating for inclusivity by legalizing Jhatka methods as well. We believe in respecting all religious beliefs while also considering ethical treatment towards animals.

By signing this petition you're supporting diversity in food practices and promoting humane treatment towards animals during slaughter processes. Please join us in urging lawmakers to legalize production, distribution, packaging and serving of Jhatka Meat.
