Delaware, known for its thriving casino sector, surprisingly lacks legalized sports betting on platforms such as FanDuel. Since the Supreme Court's decision in Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association in 2018 lifted federal restrictions on state-led sports gambling, many states have reaped significant tax benefits from legalized and regulated sports betting. New Jersey's sports wagering market alone generated nearly $60 million in state tax revenue in 2020 (source: Legal Sports Report). Making FanDuel and all sports betting legal in Delaware would not only grant sports fans participation in their favorite games, but could also provide a potential influx of tax revenue that could be used for public investments such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Needless to say, appropriate regulation should be enforced to avoid potential gambling problems. It's time for Delaware to join the growing number of states benefiting from legalized sports betting.
