Legalize Dwarf Snakehead Species

The Issue

Not all Snakehead fish are as devastating as their larger cousins, the Northern Snakehead and the Bullseye Snakehead. The dwarf species (species that grow to a maximum length of ten inches or less) have done no harm to our envoirnment, and outlawing all of them just because of how devestating two species were is unfair and illogical. The reason the Northern Snakehead is so successful as a predator is a combination of its size (it grows to 3-4 feet in length) and its aggression (it kills everything, even if it isnt hungry), as well as its breeding habits (it can produce 15000 eggs). Now, taking that combination into account, there are several things missing with dwarf species. The first being its size. Northerns arent easily killed because of how large they are, none of the native fish can really eat them. Now, almost all of the gamefish in washington state can eat these dwarf snakeheads, which are only 10 inches long maximum. Lets takesome of the most common gamefish in Washington into account, rainbow trout as an example. It grows to about 2 feet, so it can eat a fish that is 10 inches. The lake trout gets even bigger, so it will have no problem. Lets take the second variable into account, the aggression. Although these fish are smaller, they are still just as aggressive. however, if they were to try to kill something larger than itself, such as a trout, it would most likely be killed. The third variable is the breeding. They produce alot less eggs, so if there is a spread, then it will be slow, and the body of water that the fish was released in can be quarantined in time. This is even if any of them are released, and they arent tracked down in time before they breed. They would be tracked down with a mandatory tracking device implanted inside each fish, paid for by the owner. The owner would also need to be registered in a database, and pass an interview and a visual review of the planned setup.
