Legalize Divorce in the Philippines for a Better Tomorrow

The Issue

I am a child being torn apart by an unhappy marriage. It is deeply affecting me mentally. My life and the lives of countless others are affected every day by the unbearable strain of parents' marriages kept together only by the legal obligation.

In my country, marriage is regarded as a lifelong commitment, complicating matters for those who want to free themselves from an unhappy union. As a society, we should not force couples to stay together if they wish to part ways.

Around the world, divorce is legal in nearly all countries. In the US, about 4-5 million people get married per year. The US Divorce Rate is about 42-53%, showing that it is a common practice and a necessary tool for adults in less than ideal marital situations (World Population Review, 2021). The lack of a similar provision in our country can trap men and women in toxic or harmful relationships.

The importance of making divorce legal cannot be stressed enough. It can contribute to improving mental health and overall happiness, reducing domestic violence, and providing a healthier environment for children to grow in, like myself. By legalizing divorce, we will be taking a small step towards improving the lives of those stuck in unhappy marriages and ensuring better futures for their children.

Let's make our voices heard. Together, we can push for legalizing divorce, to provide relief and a way out for countless unhappy couples and struggling children. Thereby ensuring a healthier environment for their homes. Please sign this petition and help change the lives of many. We deserve the right to happier and healthier lives.
